About Me

I remember being so excited to go for my first ride on my own. I had watched my mom and my older sister go riding so many times. Mom would put me in the saddle and let me cool off her horse until I was old enough to ride on my own. I'll never forget how happy I was when I finally got to ride by myself for the first time. I have so many childhood memories of grooming our horses, leading them around the yard to eat where the lawnmower didn't reach. Riding bareback in the wintertime and falling off into the thick snow. I was so blessed to have a mother who loved horses and wanted to share it with me and my siblings.

My passion for horses and writing started where I was born and raised at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. My sisters and I grew up with Arabian and Thoroughbred/Arabian cross horses that we learned how to ride on. We built an outdoor arena and started taking english lessons. Our parents took us around to as many shows as we could get to. I will always be grateful for those memories of showing our horses and the ribbons we won in the local show rings.

A dream of mine is to travel to Australia and ride in the snowy river mountains where they filmed the movie, "The Man From Snowy River." It's been my favorite movie ever since I watched it as a child. My sisters and I would often pretend we were Jim Craig when we went trail riding.

I have always loved reading books, writing, and telling stories. When I was little, I would take home a big stack of books every time we went to the library. Through my school years, I always excelled in writing and English classes. I'm so excited to be combining my love of the written word with my love of horses.

After graduating from high school at Rosthern Junior College, I attended Lethrbidge Community College, where I graduated with my diploma in Print Communication in 2003. I worked as a journalist for a few years at a small weekly newspaper and also for a year at a daily newspaper, The Medicine Hat News. Then I got married, moved, and started farming with my husband. We had two children and I put down my writing career for a few years.

As an adult, I switched to western riding and have thoroughly enjoyed working cattle on horseback. From dressage and jumping, to sorting and moving cows, horses have taught me so much. They are and will always be a passion that burns in my heart. Now happily divorced, I'm excited to have this opportunity to get back into writing for a living again. But this time, combining my love of horses with my love of writing!

Me with a horse during a women's horse retreat. This exercise was asking yourself a question at each pylon and speaking your answer out loud and then seeing if the horse agreed or disagreed with your self-assessment. If the horse walked forward easily, they agreed with your statement.

My boys, Caleb and Henry, brushing Pearl, a QH/Percheron cross mare I bought for them. She was such a sweet girl.

Me riding Rosie, a Quarterhorse mare, while rounding up cattle to bring them in from a large pasture. Rosie loved chasing cows! She was so much fun to ride.

My Mission

My mission is a simple one: To create professional, fun, easy-to-read content for horse-related websites and organizations. I'm totally stoked to help online equine publications spread the joy of horses and help their readers learn about these amazing animals we get to experience.

My Vision

My vision is to be known as a reliable, dependable writer who reaches the target audience with joy and enthusiasm. To be known for my story-telling and my connection with readers. To bring horses and people together. To share quality horse knowledge and help readers achieve their goals.

Right: Someone caught me daydreaming while I let my horse, George, graze some lush grass. His registered name was Class Act One, but we just called him George.
